Laboratory “Hydraulic structures”

The laboratory’s activities are centered on research and development within the field of hydraulic engineering. Our work focuses on the implementation of innovative water and resource-saving technologies for the accounting, monitoring, and management of surface water resources. These efforts aim to enhance agricultural productivity and reduce water consumption in the face of an increasing global water deficit.

Main Activities:

  • Research & Data Analysis: Providing the scientific foundation and analysis of initial data for the design, construction, and reconstruction of embankment dams and levees. This includes work in challenging climatic and geotechnical conditions using industrial by-products (slags, coal waste) and low-strength soils, featuring calculations for filtration regimes, stability, slope protection, stress-strain states, and dam-break wave analysis.
  • Technical Expertise: Conducting expert evaluations on the construction, reconstruction, and operation of various hydraulic structures, as well as assessing industrial impacts on the hydrogeological environment.
  • Reliability Assessment: Inspecting hydraulic structures during both construction and operational phases to evaluate reliability, identify defects or damage in a timely manner, and prevent accidents through professional recommendations.
  • Safety Declarations: Developing safety declarations for hydraulic facilities and supporting documentation, including safety criteria, probable loss estimation for potential accidents, and safety monitoring protocols.
  • Monitoring Systems: Designing installation schemes for instrumentation and providing professional analysis of field observation data.
  • Construction Technology: Refining technologies for soil placement in embankment structures, including quarry preparation, development, and experimental soil compaction (trial rolling).
  • Geotechnical Control: Organizing and conducting geotechnical quality control during the construction of hydraulic facilities.
  • Regulatory Support: Participating in the development of regulatory frameworks, technical specifications, and standards for the design of earth-fill dams.
  • State Expert Review: Performing state reviews of safety declarations for water management and industrial hydraulic facilities.
  • Scientific Training: Advanced training for specialists, organizing internships, and developing scientific personnel for the water management and agribusiness sectors.
