Ground Monitoring of Prospective Irrigated Lands Conducted in Abai Region

From August 18 to 30, 2026, specialists of the Kazakh Research Institute of Water Management conducted ground monitoring activities in the Abai Region under Activity 4 of Budget Program 254 – «Information Support for the Development of Prospective Irrigated Lands in the Republic of Kazakhstan Based on Space and Ground Monitoring»
Specialists from the Irrigation Technologies and Machinery Department of the Kazakh Research Institute of Water Management, together with representatives of the co-executor JSC «NCSRT», identified polygons for ground surveys and conducted field studies at selected sites in the Beskaragai, Zharma, Ayagoz, Zhanasemey and Aksuat districts of the Abai Region.
The results of the ground surveys will be compared and verified against space monitoring data. Based on the findings, a preliminary assessment of the suitability of the surveyed sites for regular irrigation will be carried out.
As part of Activity 4, a seminar was also held with representatives of the Irtysh Basin Water Inspectorate and the Abai Region branch of RSE «Kazakh Water Managemen» Specialists from JSC «NCSRT» also took part in the seminar. The participants discussed the use of ground and space monitoring data, as well as approaches to identifying and assessing prospective irrigated lands.
