The Effectiveness of Phosphogypsum Application on the Drained Seabed of the Aral Sea Has Been Studied

Employees of “Kazakh Research Institute of Water Economy” LLP conducted a business trip to the Kazakh part of the Aral Sea region and the desiccated bed of the Aral Sea, located in the Aral District of the Kyzylorda Region, from August 12 to 19, 2026. This was carried out within the framework of research work on the topic: “Scientific substantiation of the feasibility of using phosphogypsum during phyto-amelioration works in the Kazakh part of the Aral Sea region and the desiccated bottom of the Aral Sea.”
During the trip, reconnaissance works and surveys of experimental plots were carried out to assess the ecological and ameliorative condition of the territory and determine the impact of phosphogypsum on the soil cover. The survey was conducted across 4 experimental plots where the effectiveness of phosphogypsum application under the conditions of the Aral Sea region is being studied. Fieldwork included assessing the state of the soil cover, the general condition of the experimental plots, and the specific effects of the applied phosphogypsum on soil and ameliorative indicators. Additionally, the survival rate of tree and shrub vegetation on the experimental plots was recorded. The actual condition of the planted plants, their preservation, and adaptation to the natural, climatic, and soil conditions of the desiccated bottom of the Aral Sea were determined. The obtained materials will be used for subsequent evaluation of the effectiveness of phosphogypsum as an ameliorative component in phyto-amelioration measures.
