In the Zhetysay district of the Turkestan region, work was carried out to reuse water from vertical drainage wells (VDWs) to increase water availability in irrigated lands.

From August 3 to 7, 2026, employees of the “Irrigated Land Reclamation and Ecology” department of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Water Economy LLP conducted a business trip to the Zhetysay district of the Turkestan region as part of the implementation of the G project AR23485228 “Increasing Water Availability of Irrigated Lands with the Reuse of Drainage Water for Irrigation.”
During the trip, research work was carried out in accordance with the project schedule. Phenological observations of cotton growth and development in experimental plots were conducted, including an assessment of plant health and key development indicators.
Water samples from the VDWs were collected for subsequent laboratory analysis to determine the mineralization and chemical composition of the irrigation water. Soil samples were also collected for chemical analysis and assessment of changes in their meliorative status.
The data obtained and the results of the field studies will be used to assess the feasibility of reusing water from vertical drainage wells to increase water availability in irrigated lands and to develop scientifically sound recommendations for their use in the Zhetysay district.
