Seminar on Improving Hydromodule Zoning of the Syr Darya River Basin Held in Kyzylorda.

On 8 July 2026, a seminar was held at the Student Palace of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University in Kyzylorda as part of the project “Adjustment of the Hydromodule Zoning of the Syr Darya River Basin Using Earth Remote Sensing Data and Satellite Mapping Technologies to Improve Water Consumption Estimates and Irrigation Regimes for Agricultural Crops Cultivated in the Region.”

The seminar aimed to discuss modern approaches to improving hydromodule zoning, enhancing the efficiency of water resource management, and applying Earth remote sensing data and satellite mapping technologies to optimize agricultural water consumption and irrigation regimes within the Syr Darya River Basin.

The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its subordinate organizations, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, local executive authorities (Akimats) of the Turkistan and Kyzylorda regions, the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) and its branches, the Kazakh Research Institute of Water Economy (KazSRIWE), the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (SIC ICWC), the Kazakh Research Institute of Rice Growing, higher education institutions specializing in water resources management and irrigation, including the Kazakh National University of Water Management and Irrigation (KazNUWMI) and the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME), as well as farmers and other interested stakeholders.

During the seminar, participants discussed key issues related to the sustainable use of water resources, the introduction of modern digital technologies into the water sector, the improvement of irrigation regimes for agricultural crops, and the strengthening of regional cooperation in the management of transboundary water resources.

The seminar provided an important platform for knowledge exchange among government agencies, research institutions, universities, and agricultural producers. It also facilitated the development of practical, science-based recommendations aimed at improving water-use efficiency in the Syr Darya River Basin while addressing current climatic and technological challenges.
