Ground Monitoring of Promising Irrigated Lands Conducted in the East Kazakhstan Region

From May 12 to 22, 2026, specialists from the Department of Irrigation Technologies and Equipment carried out a field mission to the East Kazakhstan Region as part of Activity 4, “Information Support for the Expansion of Promising Irrigated Lands in the Republic of Kazakhstan Based on Space and Ground Monitoring,” implemented under Budget Program 254 within the Program-Targeted Financing of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the mission, ground monitoring was conducted at 28 promising irrigated land sites. Field surveys were performed, baseline data were collected, and a preliminary assessment of the suitability of the surveyed areas for irrigation was carried out.
Modern field monitoring and geodetic equipment were used during the surveys. These included the Geoscan 401 Geodesy unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for aerial photography of the study areas, a GPS navigator for determining and recording the geographic coordinates of the surveyed sites, and the HydraGO Flex instrument for measuring soil parameters under field conditions. In addition, soil samples were collected for subsequent laboratory analysis.
The aerial survey data, field measurements, and laboratory analysis of the collected soil samples will be used to assess the irrigation potential of the surveyed territories and to develop scientifically based recommendations for their future agricultural use.
